Money has continued to flow out of major cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), while XRP spot ETFs recorded net inflows of $11.31 million last week.
On Oct. 12 (local time), blockchain media outlet Cryptopolitan reported that $681.10 million left bitcoin spot ETFs last week. Ether and solana spot ETFs also posted net outflows of $542.07 million and $24.81 million, respectively. Total outflows from the three assets' ETFs came to about $1.25 billion.
Outflows were concentrated in bitcoin and ether. Net outflows from the two assets' ETFs were about $1.223 billion, accounting for about 98 percent of the combined outflows from the three assets. For fund flows in major crypto ETFs to improve, a key question is whether outflows from bitcoin and ether products ease.
By contrast, $11.31 million flowed into XRP spot ETFs. Unlike bitcoin, ether and solana, it attracted new money, but the inflow amounted to less than 1 percent of the other three assets' combined outflows. XRP's net inflow alone was not enough to offset the overall outflows from major ETFs.
In the spot market, an early-week rebound lost steam. Bitcoin rose as high as $84,150 at one point on Oct. 12, but later gave back gains and slid to around the $82,000 level.
With the price rebound failing to continue, whether outflows in the ETF market ease is also a key issue. Still, last week's ETF fund flows and current prices were measured at different times, making it difficult to interpret them with a direct link. XRP also needs follow-on fund-flow confirmation to see whether last week's net inflow leads to sustained investment demand.
U.S. stock index futures were mixed early in the week. As investors await corporate earnings and inflation data releases, shifts in risk appetite remain a variable that could affect the crypto market. Key points to watch are whether bitcoin's price rebound leads to ETF inflows and whether XRP's net inflows continue. The scale of outflows from bitcoin and ether and subsequent fund flows for XRP are expected to be indicators of whether investor sentiment in the ETF market recovers.
