The Information reported on Feb. 26 that paid subscribers to Anthropic's consumer chatbot Claude have more than doubled since October last year.
Daily new sign-ups for the Claude chatbot have tripled since November. Free users have also risen 60 percent over the past month. Anthropic did not disclose specific subscriber numbers.
Anthropic cited surging use of the coding agent Claude Code and the office automation agent Claude Cowork as drivers of the chatbot's growth. Both services are available to paid subscribers.
In weekly users, it remains far behind OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. ChatGPT has about 910 million weekly users, and Gemini is at about 750 million.
Anthropic had projected that 86 percent of its total revenue of about $4.5 billion in 2025 would come from sales of application programming interface (API) models, with the remaining about $600 million from chatbot sales.
Anthropic has focused on the corporate market, but is also stepping up its consumer business. Last month it hired former Instagram product leader Andrew Feldman (앤드루 펠드먼) as head of consumer products.
