U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have recorded net outflows so far in October, showing a weak trend.
Decrypt, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Friday that money has left ethereum ETFs for nine straight sessions, while solana ETFs have logged net outflows for five straight sessions. Contrary to expectations of so-called “Uptober,” funds are continuing to leave the broader crypto ETF market.
Decrypt’s ETF tally showed U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $21.1 million on Oct. 9. It marked a modest rebound after net outflows of $484.9 million on Oct. 7 and $244.1 million on Oct. 8. Still, cumulative net outflows over the first seven trading sessions of October reached $386.3 million.
Crypto ETFs allow investors to gain exposure to digital asset price moves without using a crypto exchange or wallet. They track the price of the underlying asset and can be traded like stocks through brokerage accounts. Since launch, they have drawn strong market interest, and inflows and outflows are used as a key gauge of investor sentiment.
Inflows continued in early October. Net inflows totaled $292.6 million over Oct. 1 and 2, and another $118.8 million came in on Oct. 6. Selling then persisted, and the net outflow on Oct. 7 was the largest since June.
That contrasts with September. After a cloture vote on debate over the CLARITY Act failed in the U.S. Senate, large outflows occurred in mid-September. Bitcoin ETFs then recorded net inflows for nine straight sessions, bringing in about $3 billion, and the cumulative flow since the start of 2026 turned positive.
Ethereum ETFs are faring worse. The products recorded net outflows of $56.1 million on Oct. 9, extending outflows to nine straight sessions. Cumulative net outflows in October totaled $635 million, and about $700 million has left over the full outflow streak. The biggest single-day net outflow was $201.9 million on Oct. 6. Since launch, cumulative net inflows are $13.2 billion and net assets total $14.5 billion.
Solana ETFs have also recorded net outflows in October. Outflows of $3.8 million on Oct. 9 extended the streak to five straight sessions, and cumulative net outflows this month increased to $24.8 million. The only day of inflows in October was Oct. 2, when $1.3 million came in. Since launch, cumulative net inflows are $137.9 million.
Since launch, cumulative net inflows into bitcoin ETFs total $57.6 billion, and total net assets are $100.6 billion, the tally showed.
