Supabase, an open-source PostgreSQL-based database company, has raised $150 million.

Supabase also agreed to acquire database startup Turso.

SiliconANGLE reported on Oct. 2 local time that Supabase unveiled a new cloud service, Supabase Compute, alongside the fundraising.

The funding round was led by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC. Alphabet unit CapitalG, IronArc and Square Peg also participated. The purchase price for Turso was not disclosed.

Supabase's paid services include user login management, backups and automation tools that manage data at set time intervals. It also provides features for AI workloads. It can store embeddings and supports an MCP server that allows external AI agents to read and edit records.

The Turso acquisition is tied to expanding AI capabilities. Turso is based on the open-source relational database SQLite and can run on low-power devices such as smartphones and wearables because it uses little hardware resources.

AI agents frequently create databases to store information they collect or generate. Turso can run databases in near real time for such environments, reducing user wait times.

Supabase Compute provides a hosting sandbox for long-running AI agents. For simple tasks that do not require a full relational database, it can use a lightweight Turso instance.

Supabase plans to use the funds to support employee liquidity and invest in developing new AI agent features.
