Joycity said on Thursday it has confirmed the official title of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game under development by Red Ginkgo Games, an affiliate of Ndream, as 'Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack'.
Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack is a Korea-history MMORPG previously known under the working title 'Project Imjin'. Production is overseen by director Kim Tae-gon (김태곤), who made hit titles based on Korean history including 'Imjinrok', 'Cheonhajeil Geosang' and 'Goonzu Online'.
The game is set during the Imjin War and features collecting and training 36 real commanders from the three countries of Joseon, Japan and Ming. Players can also directly operate real weapons such as the turtle ship, panokseon and hwacha (singijeon) to experience multi-dimensional battlefields including naval battles and sieges.
It also offers a full-voice scenario with dubbing in 3 languages, Korean, Japanese and Chinese, as well as regional dialects, to maximise a sense of historical presence and immersion. It has built a robust economic system, enabling players to manufacture most of the game's key in-game currencies through hunting and gathering.
Joycity and Red Ginkgo Games have completed a second alpha test held from Feb. 10 to 17. The two companies plan to make final checks on the game's completeness and new content based on user feedback collected from the test and to maximise synergy.
Imjin War: Joseon's Counterattack is scheduled for an official release in the first half of this year on mobile and PC platforms.
