Meta is setting up a Meta Compute organisation to expand AI infrastructure, SiliconANGLE reported on Jan. 12. Meta plans to build data centres that will consume tens of gigawatts of power.
To that end, Santosh Janardhan, head of global infrastructure, and Daniel Gross, a co-founder of Safe Superintelligence Inc., will lead the organisation.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, "Meta plans to build infrastructure on the scale of tens of gigawatts over this decade, and hundreds of gigawatts over the longer term." He said expanding AI infrastructure would be a strategic advantage.
Meta Compute focuses on systematically scaling AI infrastructure beyond existing data-centre expansion methods. For this, Meta plans to secure large buildings and advanced hardware and to establish a long-term supply-chain strategy.
Janardhan will oversee Meta's system architecture, in-house semiconductor development, software stack and global data-centre operations. Gross will be responsible for long-term capacity planning and building supply chains for chip, server and networking equipment.
