[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Segway has unveiled a small cargo electric bicycle with a top speed of 45 km per hour and automatic shifting. It is targeting the utility e-bike market, highlighting practicality for urban commuting as well as carrying people and cargo.

On Sept. 15 (local time), electric vehicle outlet Electrek reported that Segway unveiled the new MUXI Pro based on a short-tail cargo e-bike platform.

The MUXI Pro’s biggest feature is a nine-speed electronic drivetrain and automatic shifting. It reduces the burden of shifting while securing a wide gear range, allowing travel at up to 28 miles per hour (about 45 km per hour) with pedal assist. In the Segway app, users can choose Class 1, 2 or 3 riding modes, and actual permitted limits vary depending on local laws.

The drivetrain includes a 750-watt rear direct-drive motor and a 716Wh battery. Maximum torque is 80 Nm, and it can travel up to 73 miles (about 117 km) on a single charge. Actual range varies depending on riding mode, terrain and rider weight.

It also strengthened safety and convenience features. It supports regenerative braking and hill descent control to manage speed on downhills, and it applies hill-start assist and traction control that detects rear-wheel freewheeling.

The frame includes a 70 mm suspension fork and hydraulic disc brakes based on 180 mm rotors. It uses 20x3-inch tires and provides front and rear fenders and integrated turn signals as standard.

As a cargo bike, it also has load capacity. Total load limit is 418 pounds (about 190 kg), and an optional passenger kit allows carrying a passenger of up to 120 pounds (about 54 kg). Front and center baskets can also be added. The bike weighs 82.2 pounds (about 37.3 kg).

It also offers various smart features. It includes a color TFT display that supports Apple Find My, GPS tracking, AirLock, Lost Mode, wireless software updates and navigation. Some connectivity features are provided by subscription after the first year.

The MUXI Pro will be released in two colors, Anthracite and Leaf Blue, and it is priced at $1,999.99 (about 2.73 million won). In the United States, it is expected to go on sale from Sept. 22 at Segway dealers and the online store.
