Woori Bank said on Jan. 13 it has extended its main partnership contract with Riot Games for League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), the domestic professional league for League of Legends (LoL).
At a signing ceremony held at Chijijik LoL Park in Jongno district, Seoul, Woori Bank CEO Jin-wan Jung and Riot Games Korea head Hyuk-jin Cho, along with key officials from both companies, attended and agreed to continue the main partnership that has run since 2019.
Woori Bank has held the WooriWON Banking High School LoL League four times, contributing to the discovery of new esports talent, and it sponsored South Korea's national esports team at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
It has also strengthened communication with fans by running an esports section on WooriWON Banking for LCK fans and by setting up on-site event booths at tournament finals to give away limited-edition goods, among other events.
Woori Bank plans to roll out various online and offline events this year, starting with the LCK Cup tournament to be held in January.
In particular, Woori Financial Group, selected as an official partner of the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, plans to actively carry out support marketing for the national esports team, following League of Legends being adopted as an official esports event at this year's Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Jung said, "I cannot forget the emotion of esports, which won the gold medal at the last Hangzhou Asian Games and brought joy to the public." He added, "I hope the partnership between Woori Bank and Riot Games will be a great help to the development of esports and the expansion of its base."
