Nexon said on Thursday it will open an escape room cafe, 'Maplestory Escape', using the intellectual property of 'Maplestory' in collaboration with Isang Creative on Sept. 21 in front of the main gate of Hongik University in Seoul.
Maplestory Escape is a permanent venue that turns key in-game areas and its universe into escape room content. It admits 2 to 6 people. Regular reservations are taken on YES24 every Monday at 10 a.m. It will run through Sept. 20, 2028.
The escape room venue consists of 5 themes. It will sequentially unveil 'Kerning City' and 'Mu Lung Garden' on Sept. 21, 'Haunted Mansion' on Sept. 28, 'Edelstein' on Oct. 5, and 'Ludibrium' on Oct. 12.
Participants will experience each theme by entering five books with empty endings, retrieving 'fragments of dimensions' and completing the stories.
In its first week, it will run early pre-sales for users with a representative 'Maplestory' character at level 270 or higher. It will also hold a 'Maple Escape Room Number One' event that gives acrylic stands to the team with the fastest record in each theme each day. Another event, 'Kerning City in Hongdae', will run NPCs and mini-games on the streets of Hongdae.
From Oct. 9 to 11, it will hold 'Maple Escape Day'. Maplestory creators including Segleja, Pangiyo, Myeongye Hunjang, Cheongmyo and Jingyeok Cannon are set to take part as part-time workers at the escape room cafe.
Nexon will also present an escape room showdown featuring broadcaster Seo Chul-goo (서출구) and Heo Sung-beom (허성범), along with Maplestory creators Tayo and Ira333. Voting to predict the winner will begin on Sept. 17.
Nexon is also continuing efforts to expand the Maplestory IP into offline spaces. At Lotte World Adventure Busan, it is currently running the 'Maplestory in Lotte World Busan' collaboration through Nov. 22.
