Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister at South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT, discussed ways to expand cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in AI and other digital fields.

Ryu met UAE Ambassador to South Korea Jamal Abdulla Alsuwaidi (자말 압둘라 알수웨이디) on Wednesday to exchange views on key issues in digital fields including AI and the direction of cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was arranged to mark Alsuwaidi's assumption of his post. The two sides reviewed major projects and exchange status that the two countries have pursued in AI and ICT, and agreed to identify new opportunities for cooperation in advanced technology fields.

They agreed there is a need to strengthen bilateral cooperation by sharing AI policy experience and expanding people-to-people exchanges and communication among related institutions and companies. The two sides plan to maintain communication so results can follow by broadening participation by the private sector and related institutions, not limiting discussions to the government level.

Ryu said, "Korea and the UAE are good partners that can leverage each other's strengths in digital fields including AI," adding, "I will actively seek concrete opportunities for cooperation centred on areas of interest to both countries."

Alsuwaidi said, "Korea and the UAE have great potential to develop together in AI and advanced technology fields," adding, "I will energise exchanges between the two countries and create new opportunities for cooperation."
