Smilegate Futurelab is supporting teenage and young adult creators who produce short films using AI.

Futurelab said on Wednesday it is recruiting participants for the AI film-creation support programme 'Prompt to Film'. Applicants must be aged 16 to 24 and interested in film creation and storytelling. They can apply on the Futurelab website through Oct. 12.

Participants will produce their stories as short films using AI over about four months. The programme includes expert lectures covering how to write storytelling, the AI film production process and production schedule management.

Mentors include Lee Sang-yong (이상용), chief programmer at the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival (BIKY), director Jang Kwon-ho (장권호), a winner in the AI film category at the 2025 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, and director Shin Young-sik (신영식) of the film 'Uncle Samsik'. The programme will also run peer learning for participants to share their work and a film analysis programme.

'Prompt to Film' expands on the 'Youth AI Video Creation Workshop' that Futurelab has run over the past two years. It broadens the scope from an education-focused course to include support for film production and screenings of completed works.

Completed works will be unveiled at an internal screening in February 2027. Among them, works selected as outstanding will be screened at the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival in the same year.

Oh Sook-hyun (오숙현), executive director of the Smilegate Futurelab foundation, said the programme was designed to go beyond learning AI technology and help participants experience putting their own unique perspective and story on the screen. She asked for strong interest and participation from creators looking forward to standing in front of the screen.
