Apple on Sept. 9 (local time) unveiled the iPhone Duo, the world’s first foldable iPhone, in Cupertino, California.
The iPhone Duo has a 19.3 cm internal display when unfolded and a 13.6 cm external display when folded. The external screen is 90 percent of the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen area while keeping a compact size. The two displays are designed with the same aspect ratio to provide a consistent user experience whether unfolded or folded. It also offers a nano-texture finish option to reduce glare.
The body is made of Grade 5 titanium. The back uses Ceramic Shield, and the front uses Ceramic Shield 2 with scratch resistance improved threefold versus the previous version. The hinge has more than 100 parts for precise opening and closing, and it also has IP68 water and dust resistance.
The new A20 Pro chip offers up to 35 percent higher sustained performance than the previous model and is made using a 2-nanometre process. It has a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. New foldable features include Duo Preview, which lets users check framing on the external screen, and Duo FaceTime, which lets users join video calls using the external display. It runs iOS27 and supports multitasking features such as Split View, which opens two apps side by side.
John Ternus (존 터너스), Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, said, “iPhone Duo is the most innovative change since the first iPhone,” adding, “It shows what is possible when hardware and software are designed together.”
The battery is installed on both sides, allowing up to 44 hours of video playback when using only the external screen and up to 24 hours when using both sides equally. It will be released worldwide as an eSIM-only model and will come in two colours: Star White and Night Sky. In South Korea, pricing starts at 3.29 million won. Preorders start at 9 p.m. on Oct. 16, and official sales begin on Oct. 23. Dedicated accessories will also be released, including an iPhone Duo case priced at 119,000 won and a kickstand folio priced at 199,000 won.
