More than 260,000 subscribers have left KT since it introduced a contract termination fee waiver for all customers.
Industry data on Jan. 13 showed that 266,782 customers moved from KT to other carriers from the start of the waiver on Dec. 31 through the previous day. Of those who left KT during the period, 74.2 percent moved to SK Telecom.
The total number of mobile number porting transactions on Jan. 12 was 93,804, the highest since KT began waiving termination fees. The surge in porting demand briefly caused system errors.
KT saw 50,579 subscribers leave, topping 50,000 for the first time since the waiver began. Of them, 32,791, or 64.8 percent, chose SKT. Another 11,522, or 22.8 percent, moved to LG Uplus. A further 6,266, or 12.4 percent, switched to budget carriers, or MVNOs.
KT's termination fee waiver runs through Jan. 13. The industry expects last-minute departures to continue on the final day.
