Kakao Games will launch Supercat-developed new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "Dokkaebi World" on Oct. 8. Ahead of the release, it will hold a live demonstration on Sept. 18 that will show actual gameplay with commentary from the development team.
Kakao Games said on Sept. 9 it held an online showcase for "Dokkaebi World" on Sept. 8 and unveiled the launch schedule, major content and its service operation direction.
"Dokkaebi World" is a 2.5D MMORPG in development based on the intellectual property (IP) of Naver web novel and webtoon "Myeolgwi Sudujeon." It combines 2D pixel characters with 3D backgrounds and also collaborated with Redice Studio, the production company behind "Solo Leveling."
The showcase revealed the core combat "Tosul" system. Tosul consists of 12 styles in total, and each is linked to a unique mechanism called "Shinsik Opening." Users can vary their combat approach depending on their Tosul combinations.
Its growth structure places more weight on cooperation than competition between users, while combining player-versus-player (PvP) that can be joined optionally. Kakao Games also introduced operations systems including a data management function using an AI system called "Myorong" and the "Dokkaebi General Assembly," which regularly hears user feedback.
It also revealed detailed service policies and in-game footage. Attendees included Kakao Games CEO Si-woo Lee (이시우), business division head Myung-soo Cha (차명수), Supercat director Su-min Jang (장수민) and producer (PD) Sung-jun Park (박성준). A question-and-answer session was also held in which an influencer delivered users' questions.
Kakao Games will additionally reveal what the game looks like before the launch. It will hold the live demonstration on Sept. 18, directly playing major content while the development team explains systems and gameplay progress in real time.
It also unveiled a new ad video titled "Jayanggangjang" featuring actor Ji-hoon Park (박지훈). It parodies the format of pharmaceutical advertising to convey game features and pre-registration information.
Kakao Games plans to conduct final development and prepare service operations with the goal of official service on Oct. 8.
