[DigitalToday reporter Oh Sang-yup] South Korea's KOSPI moved above the 7,000 level early on Sept. 8. It reclaimed the level for the first time in 15 trading sessions since Aug. 18 on an intraday basis.
At 9:04 a.m., the KOSPI was up 26.72 points, or 0.38 percent, at 7,022.11 from the previous session's close. The index opened up 50.40 points, or 0.72 percent, at 7,045.79. It moved above 7,000 at the opening and is trying to hold the level.
The KOSPI last moved above 7,000 intraday on Aug. 18, 15 trading sessions ago. At the time, it rose as high as 7,216.62 during the session but ended at 6,869.83.
In the main board market, individuals were net buyers of 59.4 billion won. Foreigners were net sellers of 71.5 billion won and institutions net sellers of 5.7 billion won.
Big semiconductor stocks, which surged the previous day, were taking a breather. Samsung Electronics was down 0.09 percent at 269,750 won and SK Hynix was down 0.28 percent at 1,778,000 won.
Elsewhere, SK Square was down 0.62 percent, Samsung Electro-Mechanics fell 1.93 percent, Hyundai Motor slipped 0.57 percent and Samsung Life Insurance was down 0.16 percent.
By contrast, LG Energy Solution rose 1.24 percent, KB Financial Group gained 1.65 percent and Samsung Biologics was up 0.48 percent.
The KOSDAQ also rose. At the same time, it was up 6.01 points, or 0.73 percent, at 828.20.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won was at 1,342.00 per dollar, up 5.00 won, or 0.37 percent, from the previous session.
Han Ji-young (한지영), an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, said there is room for temporary profit-taking and a pullback in the KOSPI, centered on semiconductors, after the short-term surge. "What matters is whether the continuity of foreign net buying is maintained even during a pullback phase," Han said.
