[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong] Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to keep the same screen size as the previous model, while display technology changes in two directions. IT outlet NineToFiveMac reported the details on Sept. 3 (local time).

The key points are the adoption of LTPO+ and a smaller Dynamic Island. The Pro lineup could include LTPO+, a step beyond the current LTPO. LTPO is the technology that has supported the iPhone’s always-on display and ProMotion features. If the change is implemented, it is expected to reduce screen flicker in low-light environments and improve power efficiency.

The Elec, cited by the outlet, pointed to a faster-adjusting control function in low-light environments as an advantage of LTPO+. That could reduce flicker and lower power consumption. For users, that could mean a more stable display while easing battery burden.

Another change is a reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have a smaller cutout at the top of the screen, slightly expanding the usable display area.

The reduction is not small. Observers say the new Dynamic Island could be about 35 percent smaller than on the iPhone 17 Pro. The new Siri design in iOS 27 has already hinted at such a size change.

Apple first introduced the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. Software features related to it, including Live Activities, have steadily expanded, but the physical cutout size itself has not changed. If this adjustment is made, Apple would move one step closer to a display design without a cutout.

The changes focus on refining the overall screen experience rather than adding simple features. That is because they aim at low-power operation, improved visibility and an expanded display area while keeping screen size unchanged. It is seen as a strategy to raise perceived display quality, particularly on Pro models.

A key point to watch is whether the two changes are reflected as they are in the actual product announcement. Attention is also on the extent of any battery-efficiency gains from LTPO+ and what changes a smaller Dynamic Island could bring across the user interface. NineToFiveMac said the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max would finally move one step closer toward a display without a cutout.
