MSIT opens call for quantum cluster designations to expand field applications
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on April 17 it will launch a call to designate quantum clusters to promote the application and spread of quantum technologies in industry. The initiative follows plans released in January under the first comprehensive plan to foster quantum science, technology and industry. Metropolitan and provincial governors can apply by May 18. Applicants must choose one main field and may propose linked areas and models, with local matching funds required.

South Korea steps up international quantum ecosystem cooperation, expands investment coordination
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said a government delegation attended the fifth meeting of the Quantum Development Group in London from March 31 to April 1. The group, launched in July 2024, discusses cooperation in investment, supply chains, industry outlook and technology protection. Thirteen countries took part. Delegates discussed strengthening research and investment security, expanding cooperation between governments and investors, and enhancing standardisation to promote industrialisation.

South Korea aims to become No. 1 quantum chip maker by 2035, to raise 2,000 quantum firms
South Korea has set out a comprehensive plan to nurture quantum technology as a next-generation national growth engine. It aims to become the world’s No. 1 quantum chip manufacturing country by 2035, train 10,000 quantum specialists and develop 2,000 quantum companies. The plan includes developing a domestic full-stack quantum computer, expanding quantum-secure communications and sensors, launching long-term basic research, and designating regional quantum clusters by 2030.
