Stellar pursues quantum-resistant migration without address changes, signing key replacement central
The Stellar Development Foundation unveiled QPP, a roadmap to prepare the Stellar (XLM) network for quantum computers, and said it aims to complete a shift of all accounts to quantum-resistant signatures by the end of 2027. The plan is designed to keep existing addresses and transaction histories intact while replacing only signing keys. It outlines a three-stage rollout from 2026, adds NIST-standardised ML-DSA support, and raises dormant-account handling as a remaining issue.

Stellar launches quantum security plan to upgrade all accounts by end-2027
Stellar developers unveiled a three-step roadmap to shift to quantum-resistant cryptography to counter threats from quantum computers. The plan starts in 2026 with changes for corporate wallets and institutions, then a 2027 protocol upgrade enabling all accounts to add quantum-resistant signers while keeping existing addresses. A final phase will retire the current cryptography, with timing to be decided later. The foundation flagged dormant accounts as a key challenge.

107 bitcoin held for 12 years disappear as burned; tax and misdirected transfer theories spread
An unidentified entity sent 107 bitcoin held for more than 12 years to a burn address, making them permanently unusable. Cointelegraph said the coins were worth $8.5 million at the time. On-chain data showed five addresses moved the bitcoin to an old burn address starting with “11111”. The transfer drew attention because the coins were bought when bitcoin traded below $600, prompting theories ranging from tax-loss purposes to errors and illicit fund disposal.
