Solana to triple transaction capacity on Sept 9, narrowing gap with Ethereum

Solana will launch a new transaction format, TransactionV1, to expand per-transaction capacity from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, more than tripling the limit, CoinPost reported. The change enables processing of large cryptographic proofs and multi-signature transfers in a single transaction, while legacy formats continue to work. Software that reads blocks and transactions must support the new format. Solana is also preparing the AlpenGlow upgrade to cut finality to about 150 milliseconds and plans further rent fee and slot-time changes.

G7 urges rapid preparations for quantum computing threat; bitcoin, ethereum also on alert

A G7 cybersecurity working group urged governments and companies to immediately begin shifting to post-quantum cryptography, warning that technology threatening existing public-key systems is advancing faster than expected. It highlighted the risk of attacks that harvest encrypted data now and decrypt it later. The EU has set timelines for migration. Bitcoin is considering BIP-360, while Ethereum plans broader upgrades. Larger post-quantum signatures could raise storage, bandwidth and transaction costs.

Ethereum developers publish EIP-9999 deposit contract proposal to address quantum computing threat

Ethereum developers have proposed a new deposit contract design to prepare for the risk that quantum computers could break digital signatures. The draft, filed as provisional EIP-9999, is designed to handle variable-length public keys and credentials, addressing limits in the current contract built around fixed BLS12-381 sizes. It introduces schema identifiers per deposit, replaces Merkle-tree verification with log-based checks, and outlines an irreversible, three-stage process to eventually stop new BLS deposits.
