Broadcast media watchdog requests corrections for 625 cases of malicious hate, discrimination on social media
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Deliberation Committee said on Monday it will begin focused monitoring of hate, ridicule and discriminatory content spreading on social media in short-form videos and memes. The move follows concerns that such expressions are rapidly amplified by platform recommendation algorithms and could negatively affect teenagers’ values. The committee said it has requested corrective measures, including deletion and access blocking, for 625 cases since April.

BCMCC to provide training for high school students nationwide on responding to deepfakes and hate speech
The Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission will provide media ethics education for high school students nationwide. Starting Sept. 4, it will run a programme for prospective creators for schools recommended by education offices in six regions that have signed agreements with the commission, as well as other high schools that applied in advance. The course covers media ethics, review rules and violation cases, and mock review exercises, including responses to sexual deepfakes and discriminatory and hate expressions.

BMCSC to step up monitoring of online discrimination and hate speech
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Standards Commission plans a broad response to online discriminatory and hate speech, including stronger monitoring and reviews, encouragement of self-regulation by internet platform operators, and expanded media ethics education for youths. An amended Information and Communications Network Act taking effect on July 7 defines as illegal information content that incites violence or discrimination or seriously fuels hatred on specified grounds. The commission said it will act quickly on such content.
