Samsung Securities commercial paper business licence again fails to reach FSC agenda
Samsung Securities’ plan to enter the short-term funding business through issuer commercial paper was thrown into uncertainty again after the proposal was not placed on the Financial Services Commission’s regular meeting agenda on April 15. Market expectations had been that the firm could become the country’s eighth licensed issuer once it cleared the meeting. The omission was seen as unusual given past licensing timelines and has revived debate over fairness and the review process.

South Korea\'s securities firms are stepping up rate competition as the issuing-notes market grows to 54 trillion won. Hana Securities and NH Investment & Securities raised rates after newer entrants increased returns. Sales of promotional products by Hana, Shinhan Investment Corp and Kiwoom Securities sold out quickly. Despite the market\'s rapid expansion, regulatory reviews of issuing-notes approvals for Samsung Securities and Meritz Securities have not been concluded.

Shinhan Investment Corp launches first issuing note product, Park Bo-gum first subscriber
Shinhan Investment Corp launched its first issuing note product, Shinhan Premier Issuing Notes, on Feb. 9. The notes have maturities of less than one year and pay principal and interest based on an agreed return. The firm offered on-demand, fixed-term and special-sale products for individuals, with a 1,000,000 won minimum subscription. A 2030 special-sale offers 4.0 percent before tax for customers aged 15 to 39, capped at 20 billion won.
