Experts urge human control to keep AI from deciding on nuclear weapons
U.S. and Chinese security experts proposed joint principles to prevent artificial intelligence from independently deciding on attacks on nuclear command systems or the use of nuclear weapons. A Brookings Institution and Fudan University report urged expanding the human-control principle used for nuclear weapons to broader military AI. It called for humans alone to decide on cyberattacks targeting NC3 or critical infrastructure and warned that fast, unpredictable AI could escalate crises. The proposal also includes a military AI hotline and a shared definition of human control.

Ripple CLO reaffirms XRP is not a security after U.S. Senate stalls Clarity Act
Ripple stressed that XRP’s legal status remains unchanged after the U.S. Senate failed to advance the crypto regulation bill known as the Clarity Act. Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty cited a 2023 federal court ruling that XRP is not a security and said the SEC and CFTC in March jointly described XRP as a digital commodity. CEO Brad Garlinghouse called the result painful and said Ripple would focus next on rulemaking by regulators.

U.S. prosecutors call Huawei a \'criminal enterprise\' as trial focuses on trade secrets, Iran sanctions
U.S. prosecutors told a federal court in Brooklyn that Huawei was a “criminal enterprise,” accusing the Chinese telecoms equipment maker of stealing trade secrets, violating Iran sanctions and committing financial fraud. A Justice Department prosecutor said Huawei extracted technology from U.S. companies over about 20 years and abused the financial system. Huawei rejected the allegations, saying prosecutors are linking separate matters into an organised conspiracy.
