Developer role set to change as coding AI ushers in era of agent engineering
Artificial intelligence is evolving to the point of running code and making revisions based on results, a shift a web developer has dubbed “agent engineering.” Simon Willison said coding AI is moving beyond writing code to execution and verification, changing what developers should focus on. He said the cost of writing code has fallen, but humans remain responsible for accuracy, maintainability, testing and documentation. He also urged careful validation of AI-generated code.
