Anthropic Claude Code \'backdoor\' row raises hopes for Chinese AI coding tools
China has issued a security warning on Anthropic\'s AI coding tool Claude Code, raising the likelihood that Chinese developers will move faster to domestic alternatives. The National Vulnerability Database said some versions contain a security \"backdoor\" and could transmit location and identity data without user consent. Anthropic said access from China had long been prohibited under its policy. Local observers expect demand to rise for tools from ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent Cloud and ZhipuAI.

Beyond performance, China-led AI price war looms
U.S. and Chinese AI companies are rolling out new models, and observers say pricing could become a key battleground if performance differences narrow. The Financial Times cited low-cost plans from Chinese startup ZhipuAI and said prices may be set by the cheapest model that is still usable. The report said China’s leading LLM firms are performing at similar levels to U.S. rivals on benchmarks, even as U.S. firms retain higher valuations and advantages in revenue base and distribution.
