Can recycled oil and gas produced water solve data centre water shortages?
As data centres use more water alongside rising power demand, reusing water produced during oil and gas extraction as cooling water is emerging as an option. It could ease pressure on drinking-water resources, but requires storage systems tailored to water quality and long-term maintenance planning. In the United States, policies and pilot projects are being pursued, and the EPA has listed expanding water reuse for data centre cooling as a priority task.
