UK telecoms warn of data speed limits as power bills surge
Major UK telecoms have warned they could restrict mobile calls and data access if the sector is left out of government support to cut industrial electricity bills. They say rising power costs could force network speed limits, reduced service at certain times and scaled-back 5G investment. The industry says mobile networks must run around the clock and consume large amounts of electricity, making it hard to cut usage during expensive periods.
