Western Digital unveils roadmap to expand HDD capacity to 100TB
Western Digital on Tuesday unveiled a roadmap for hard disk drives with capacities of more than 100 terabytes and introduced performance and power-optimization technologies at Innovation Day 2026. The company said it has shifted to long-term customer partnerships based on multi-year contracts and more than doubled gross profit year on year. It said 40TB UltraSMR ePMR drives and HAMR drives are under validation with two hyperscale customers each, with mass production plans from the second half of this year and expanded HAMR output from 2027.
