AI, semiconductors also traded as perpetual futures as RWA derivatives market tops $2 trillion
The market for RWA perpetual futures, which track prices of real-world assets such as stocks and commodities, is expanding quickly. Cumulative third-quarter trading volume exceeded $2 trillion before the quarter ended, up more than 67 percent from about $1.2 trillion in the second quarter. Activity has concentrated in popular contracts such as S&P 500-linked products, gold and oil, while trading has also moved from centralized exchanges to decentralized venues.

Crypto industry urges U.S. to formalise oil and gas perpetual futures, 24/7 trading
Hyperliquid Policy Center (HPC) and crypto products operator TradeXYZ urged U.S. regulators to create a framework to allow oil and natural gas perpetual futures and 24-hour, seven-day trading in regulated markets. In a joint submission to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, they also asked regulators to recognise stablecoins and tokenised real-world assets as margin and to approve on-chain infrastructure for trading, clearing and settlement.

Overseas investors are effectively investing early in Chinese AI semiconductor companies through perpetual futures on cryptocurrency exchanges, an analysis said. With direct access to mainland Chinese equities limited, investors are betting on pre-listing prices via crypto derivatives. Trading has surged ahead of ChangXin Memory Technologies\' planned STAR Market listing. The products allow round-the-clock trading without owning shares and are seen as a way to bypass China’s foreign investment restrictions and perform price discovery before IPO pricing.
