Govt-funded research institutes to reorganise around core missions after PBS abolition
South Korea\'s government-funded science and technology research institutes will overhaul their R&D business structures around institution-specific core missions after the abolition of the project-based system (PBS). Incentives such as research allowances will shift from contract scale to differentiated rewards based on performance. The Ministry of Science and ICT said NST approved detailed post-PBS implementation measures, including stronger inter-institute cooperation, evaluation links to budgets and incentives, improved research administration support, and a formal umbrella TLO to back large technology transfers and deep-tech startups.

Anthropic\'s Claude Mythos Preview solves 73 percent of expert hacking tasks
Anthropic\'s Claude Mythos Preview recorded a 73 percent success rate in an expert-level cybersecurity assessment and was rated the first AI model to complete a simulated corporate network attack. The UK government\'s AI Security Institute said the model showed meaningful performance on expert hacking tasks. In a 32-step enterprise attack simulation, it completed the full process in 3 of 10 attempts and averaged 22 steps. Researchers cautioned against generalising to real-world threats.

MSIT to provide 132.9 billion won to commercialise public research and boost industry-academia collaboration
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Friday it will announce new projects under a programme to support commercialisation and start-ups using public research outcomes and a programme to revitalise industry-academia-research cooperation. The ministry\'s regional and commercialisation R&D budget rises 88.7 percent from a year earlier to 487.93 billion won. Funding for the two programmes totals 132.9 billion won, including 93.052 billion won for commercialisation and start-ups and 56.925 billion won for cooperation.
