Ledger wallet security alert: Mt Gox ex-CEO starts developing detection device

Mark Karpeles, former CEO of Mt Gox, is developing a low-cost detector to check whether Ledger hardware crypto wallets contain malicious components. The move follows reports of tampered Ledger devices carrying parts that could steal 24-word recovery phrases, raising supply-chain security concerns. Karpeles says the device would use low-power wireless signals and resonance tests, and he may publish PCB designs and specifications. No working unit or independent verification has been released.

Vitalik Buterin says bitcoin mining, AI inference differ in cost structure

Vitalik Buterin (비탈릭 부테린) said the cost structures of bitcoin mining and AI inference are fundamentally different. He said both rely on computing resources, but bitcoin mining costs are split almost evenly between hardware investment and electricity use. He said AI inference costs are mostly concentrated in computing hardware investment and do not depend heavily on high power consumption. He said bitcoin mining must manage both equipment and power costs.
