Broadcast Media Communications Commission cancels Kim Seong-geun appointment as foundation board director

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission on July 29 cancelled the appointment of Kim Seong-geun as an outside director of the Foundation for Broadcast Culture, accepting a mediation recommendation from the Seoul Administrative Court. The commission said it saw no practical benefit in maintaining the appointment because a ruling became final that did not 인정 the grounds for dismissing former director Kwon Tae-seon, which was the basis for the subsequent appointment.

South Korea\'s top court rules Webzen unpaid wage rise and incentives for union branch head was unfair labor practice

South Korea’s Supreme Court upheld lower court rulings that Webzen’s failure to pay a union branch head agreed wage increases and incentives was an unfair labor practice. The dispute began with a 2023 relief petition and went through the local and central labor commissions, an administrative court and a high court. The court rejected Webzen’s appeal in a unanimous decision. The union criticised the lack of dialogue, while Webzen said it would comply.

Netflix wins South Korea corporate tax suit, 68.7 billion won of 76.2 billion won cancelled

Netflix\'s South Korean unit effectively won a corporate tax lawsuit against tax authorities after a court ruled payments to its Dutch unit were compensation for services rather than copyright royalties. The Seoul Administrative Court ordered the cancellation of 68.7 billion won of the 76.2 billion won assessed. The case stemmed from a 2021 tax audit. Netflix had sought full cancellation of the remaining assessed tax in a suit filed in November 2023.
