Netflix wins South Korea corporate tax suit, 68.7 billion won of 76.2 billion won cancelled

Netflix\'s South Korean unit effectively won a corporate tax lawsuit against tax authorities after a court ruled payments to its Dutch unit were compensation for services rather than copyright royalties. The Seoul Administrative Court ordered the cancellation of 68.7 billion won of the 76.2 billion won assessed. The case stemmed from a 2021 tax audit. Netflix had sought full cancellation of the remaining assessed tax in a suit filed in November 2023.

Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission begins formal talks on YTN issues, forms legal advisory group

Court cancels 3-month partial suspension order on Upbit, Dunamu wins first trial

Dunamu, operator of digital asset exchange Upbit, won a first-instance administrative lawsuit challenging a 3-month partial business suspension imposed by South Korean financial authorities. The Seoul Administrative Court ruled in Dunamu’s favour in a case against the Financial Intelligence Unit under the Financial Services Commission. The court said clear rules exist to block transactions with unreported digital asset businesses for trades of 1 million won or more, but regulation is insufficient below that threshold.
