South Korea's Broadcast Media Communications Commission held a full meeting on July 29 and, in line with a mediation recommendation by the Seoul Administrative Court, cancelled the appointment of Kim Seong-geun as an outside director of the Foundation for Broadcast Culture that the former Korea Communications Commission approved on Aug. 28, 2023.

The commission said it judged there was no practical benefit in maintaining the appointment of Kim because a ruling became final in a lawsuit seeking to overturn the dismissal of former foundation director Kwon Tae-seon that found the grounds for dismissal were not 인정. It said the appointment was a follow-up measure made on the premise of that dismissal.

The Seoul Administrative Court had earlier recommended mediation in April calling for the commission to cancel Kim's appointment and for Kwon to withdraw the related lawsuit.

Commission Chairman Jong-cheol Kim (김종철) said, "It is the basic duty of all administrative bodies, and the principle of administration under the rule of law, to carry out administrative actions in accordance with the constitution and laws." He added, "Cancelling an appointment that accompanied an unfounded dismissal disposition once again confirms the commission's will to restore administration under the rule of law."
