MSIT announces winners of second special achievement bonus awards
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT selected 4 winners for the second Special Achievement Bonus Awards and held a ceremony the previous day, it said on May 19. The winners were chosen in two areas: restoring the basic research ecosystem and building a system to spread outcomes, and creating an AI-friendly Korean-style regulatory environment for data use. The ministry also expanded eligibility to include staff seconded to other agencies.

Science ICT ministry selects new Sejong Science Fellowship projects
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT selected 230 researchers for new projects under the 2026 Sejong Science Fellowship overseas training and return and recruitment tracks. It finalised 30 new projects for overseas training and 200 for the return and recruitment track, after selecting 300 projects for the domestic track in March. The return and recruitment track was introduced this year and includes Korean and foreign researchers.

South Korea science ministry selects 4,628 basic research projects for first half of 2026
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on March 12 it selected new individual basic research projects for the first half of 2026. The selection will newly support 4,628 researchers, including 2,558 core research projects, 1,770 early-career projects and 300 domestic Sejong Science Fellowships. That is 914 more projects than the same track a year earlier. The ministry said it expanded the basic research budget and strengthened researcher-centered support.
