Adam Back says Bitcoin must prepare quantum-resistant shift; Satoshi holdings could be estimated
Bitcoin could reveal how much bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto can actually access if it shifts to a post-quantum system, a claim has emerged. Blockstream CEO Adam Back (아담 백) said the safest approach is to design an optional upgrade that allows a move to quantum-resistant cryptography if needed. That shift could help gauge the effective size of Satoshi-linked holdings. Separately, a proposal to restrict movement of quantum-vulnerable coins has drawn criticism as confiscatory.

Samson Mow warns rushing Bitcoin quantum resistance could backfire
Bitcoin advocate and investor Samson Mow warned that rushing to make Bitcoin quantum-resistant could backfire. He said post-quantum signatures could be 10 to 125 times larger than current ECDSA and Schnorr signatures, potentially increasing transaction size and hurting network throughput. Mow also cautioned that moving too fast could introduce new security and operational risks, and raised concerns about reliability, including possible RNG backdoors. He urged fixing address-reuse practices first.

Bitcoin takes first step against quantum computing threat with BIP-360
Bitcoin has taken a first step to respond to quantum computing threats, with BIP-360 set out as a proposal to formalise a quantum-resistance strategy. The plan focuses on reducing exposure of public key-based cryptography by introducing a new output type and using hash-based commitments, while maintaining smart contract functions. It does not replace ECDSA or Schnorr signatures and does not automatically upgrade existing coins, requiring users to move assets to P2MR addresses.
