Archangel Lightworks pushes to commercialise world\'s smallest optical ground station
UK optical communications company Archangel Lightworks has completed test operations of its ultra-compact mobile optical ground station, TERRA-M, for laser links with low Earth orbit satellites. The company says the system is the world’s smallest deployable optical ground station meeting the U.S. Space Development Agency’s laser communications standards. It says the design emphasises small size and mobility, and could be useful for remote, temporary or defence-related communications needs.

AI coding startup Cognition raises over $1 billion at $25 billion valuation, ARR nears $492 million
AI coding startup Cognition raised more than $1 billion at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion. TechCrunch reported the valuation marked a sharp rise from an October post-money valuation of $10.2 billion after a $400 million funding round in September last year. Cognition develops Devin, an autonomous AI software engineer. The round was led by Lux Capital and General Catalyst, with participation from Founders Fund and 8VC, among others.

Cryptocurrency analyst Paul Barron called XRP a “real player” in the crypto market, saying new investors often start with bitcoin and ethereum but change their view as they examine the market more deeply. He said XRP’s more than decade-long history and its focus on financial infrastructure, liquidity and enterprise use cases can be overlooked at first. Barron cited institutional adoption, including by SBI Holdings and Santander, as key to how XRP’s progress is judged.
