IBM CEO says firms rethink security spending in AI era; U.S. cybersecurity stocks jump
U.S.-listed cybersecurity stocks rose broadly after IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said companies are reassessing security budgets as AI spreads and cyberattack risks grow. He said customers are shifting IT spending toward AI infrastructure such as servers and memory while rapidly raising their guard against security threats. Okta, Netskope and CrowdStrike rose about 10 percent, with several others up 7 to 8 percent. Krishna also said uncertainty is delaying some large contracts.

AI-focused M&A gains pace as big cloud firms step up security expansion
M&A activity is picking up as the security industry reshapes around AI. Databricks is acquiring AI-based cyberattack detection startup Panther Labs, its third cybersecurity deal this year after Antimatter and SiftD. Identity security firm SailPoint Technologies is buying AI agent security startup Entro Security. Big cloud providers are also moving faster on security, with AWS launching an AI platform and Google Cloud supporting local data residency in its Seoul region.

SailPoint to acquire AI agent security startup Entro Security
Identity security company SailPoint Technologies will acquire AI agent security startup Entro Security, SiliconANGLE reported on June 16. The deal value was not disclosed, but Israeli outlet CTech put it at around $200 million. SailPoint provides a platform that manages employee access to corporate applications and launched its Agentic Fabric product in March. SailPoint plans to strengthen Agentic Fabric capabilities through the Entro acquisition.
