Renewable energy capacity to hit 550,000 MW, shift in U.S. power market expected
U.S. renewable power capacity could rise above 40 percent within a year and overtake natural gas, a report said. SUN DAY Campaign, citing an analysis of U.S. Energy Information Administration data, forecast renewables’ share rising from 37.7 percent to 40.4 percent by summer 2027. Renewable generation rose 10.2 percent in January to August from a year earlier, led by solar and wind. Total renewable capacity could reach about 550,000 MW, above projected natural gas capacity.
