One month after SPC launches SMDH holding company, major fire undercuts safety push

SPC Group has marked one month since launching holding company Sangmidang Holdings (SMDH) to strengthen accountable management and safety. A major fire at its Siheung plant has put SPC’s safety management back under scrutiny, especially as the same site saw a fatal machinery accident last May. Fire authorities said 3 of 12 workers inhaled smoke and suffered minor injuries. The plant shutdown disrupted B2B supply, though production shifted to other facilities and supply resumed on Feb. 5.

Bit Corporation accelerates shift to AI smart retail company

Bit Corporation, an affiliate of Danal, is pursuing business structure innovation and expanding its B2B and B2C distribution solutions under newly appointed CEO Chae Yoon-kwan (채윤관), it said on Jan. 26. Chae, a digital platform specialist with about 20 years at SPC Group, is integrating AI into the company’s core robot coffee brand b;eat. The company says it has completed preparations to broaden its scope after piloting a hybrid store combining an AI convenience store and robot coffee.
