AI inference infrastructure startups surge as unicorns spread
AI inference infrastructure startup Modal Labs is in talks to raise new funding at a $2.5 billion valuation, TechCrunch reported. If the round is completed, its valuation would more than double from $1.1 billion five months ago. General Catalyst is expected to lead the investment. Modal Labs is focused on improving the efficiency of running trained AI models to respond to user requests. Rivals have also raised large rounds at multibillion-dollar valuations.

Inference startup Inferact raises $150 million seed to accelerate vLLM commercialisation
The team behind the open-source AI inference optimisation project vLLM has become a startup called Inferact with venture capital backing. Inferact recently raised $150 million in seed funding and was valued at $800 million, TechCrunch reported. Andreessen Horowitz and Lightspeed Venture Partners co-led the round. Inferact’s move was compared to the recently commercialised SGLang project, which received funding at a $400 million valuation.
