Amazon to revamp developer evaluation to focus on customer and business results over AI usage
Amazon has revised software engineer job guidelines to put more weight on customer and business results than on the amount of AI tools used. The company is encouraging active use of AI while pushing back against treating usage volume as a productivity measure. It warned that focusing on metrics such as token consumption and lines of code could lead to “Tokenmaxxing” and higher costs. Amazon said usage metrics should be tied carefully to outcomes.

Tech outlook after 2026: Dawn of the renaissance developer
Technology is reshaping daily life, but a new phase is emerging in which people remain central as AI enters care, work and learning, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels writes. He points to evidence for companion robots easing loneliness, argues generative AI will elevate rather than replace developers, and warns quantum-era threats demand immediate adoption of post-quantum cryptography and talent development. Vogels also says defense innovations will move into civilian use faster and predicts AI tutoring will become ubiquitous.
