Shopify overhauls mobile app development, shifts from React Native to fully native apps
E-commerce platform Shopify is abandoning cross-platform mobile app development and returning to fully native apps. Shopify had adopted React Native in 2020 to avoid duplicating development for iPhone and Android apps. It has now reversed course, with its consumer app Shop relaunched as a native app after 12 weeks. Shopify said large language models have reduced the effort needed for native development and built an internal system called Helix to support the shift.
