Korean mobile carriers near full QoS rollout, MVNO market on alert
South Korea plans to apply a data assurance option, or QoS, across the three mobile carriers’ rate plans in the first half, guaranteeing unlimited data at 400 Kbps after allowances are used. The policy aims to lower household telecom bills, the science ministry says. MVNO users would generally need to pay about 5,000 won a month for the QoS feature, prompting complaints of discrimination. MVNOs also face limited wholesale discounts and rising spectrum fees.

Integrated LTE-5G tariffs seen expanding benefits, with LTE users gaining most
Interest is growing in how far user benefits will expand after the government and South Korea\'s three mobile carriers decided to introduce integrated LTE-5G tariffs. The plans set fees by data allowance and speed, automatically connecting to the most stable network. Carriers will include a data safety option that maintains service at about 400 kbps after data is used up. Analysts expect LTE users to feel the biggest gains, while 5G users may see more limited benefits.

‘Data peace-of-mind option’ reshapes 5G plans, but market remains sceptical
South Korea is moving to overhaul mobile plans by adding a “data peace-of-mind option” that guarantees unlimited data at 400 Kbps after allowances are used up and by introducing 5G plans in the 20,000-won range. The Ministry of Science and ICT expects 7.17 million users to benefit and estimates annual savings of 322.1 billion won. Users and civic groups question the effectiveness, citing slow speeds and limited data on the new low-cost plans.
