SK Telecom will launch new plans that integrate its 5G and LTE rate structures. From July, it will also fully apply a "peace of mind data" service that lets customers keep using data at speeds of up to 400 kbps after they exhaust their basic allowance. It will also overhaul bundled products and age-based benefit structures.
SKT said on Thursday it is revamping its pricing system so customers can enjoy tailored benefits without worrying about data.
The revamp will proceed in three directions: providing basic communications after data is exhausted, launching integrated plans in the 20,000 won range that combine 5G and LTE, and expanding benefits based on telecom products.
SKT will roll out new plans and revamp bundled products in stages, starting in early July with the application of "peace of mind data for all."
From July 1, it will apply "peace of mind data for all" free of charge to 107 LTE plans that previously did not offer peace-of-mind data (QoS). The product allows customers to continue using communications at speeds of up to 400 kbps even after they have used all of their included data.
Customers who had been paying for an existing 400 kbps peace-of-mind option add-on service will have that add-on automatically cancelled and will receive peace of mind data for all. Customers who do not want it applied based on their data usage patterns can opt out through the T World website or app, SKT retail stores, or the 114 customer centre.
SKT will also introduce new plans that combine the 5G and LTE rate structures into one. On July 2, it will launch new plans called "Best" and "Light." The five "Best" plans, which provide unlimited data, will range from 89,000 won to 129,000 won a month, while the 11 "Light" plans, which provide tiered data from 6 GB to 250 GB, will range from 39,000 won to 79,000 won a month.
The new plans will remove distinctions between network generations. Previously, 5G handset users could only use the LTE network if they subscribed to an LTE plan. Under the new plans, users can use both 5G and LTE networks within the range supported by their devices.
SKT will also convert 10 existing plans, including "T Plan Save" (33,000 won a month) and "T Kkiri Customized" (27,830 won a month), into integrated 5G and LTE plans. As a result, SKT's integrated plan lineup will start in the 20,000 won range, allowing customers with different usage patterns to choose a plan that fits them.
With the launch of "Best" and "Light," new subscriptions to 67 existing 5G and LTE plans will be halted from July 2. Existing subscribers will be able to keep using their current plans after new sign-ups are stopped.
SKT will also revamp its bundled product structure from July 1. It will change its "These Days Family Bundle," which previously required bundling one mobile line and one internet line, so customers can join by bundling mobile lines only. It will lower the barrier to entry so customers can sign up for bundled products regardless of whether they use internet service.
Most older bundled products required visiting an offline store or allowed bundling only among family members. Through the revamp of the These Days Family Bundle, which supports non-face-to-face bundling, SKT plans to extend discount benefits to two-person households that do not use fixed-line services, cohabitants before marriage registration, and new subscribers.
Older bundled products including "T+Internet (Individual)," "T+Internet (Family)," and "T Kkiri Whole Family Discount" will accept new subscribers only until July 31. New sign-ups will then be halted, but fee discount benefits for existing subscribers will be maintained.
SKT also adjusted its benefit structure by age and plan. Customers on the Best and Light plans will automatically receive additional age-based benefits without signing up for separate age-specific plans. For example, a Light 39 user will automatically receive an additional 1.5 GB of data when they turn 65.
Young adults aged 19 to 34 and teenagers aged 18 and under will receive benefits including coupons for 50 percent off coffee, 50 percent off movie tickets and 50 percent off T Roaming (baro plan).
It will also simplify plan-based benefits for online video services (OTT) and T Universe subscriptions. Previously, to receive OTT subscription benefits, customers had to first subscribe to T Universe lifestyle benefits and then choose the OTT service they wanted. Under the Best plans, customers can choose their preferred OTT service immediately after signing up.
SKT will revamp T Universe Pass benefits around "T Universe Big" products that select 3 to 6 key partners. Users on plans of "Best Pro" or above will also receive subscription benefits for generative artificial intelligence (AI) services. Users of those plans can choose from a generative AI service and one OTT service, two OTT services, or T Universe lifestyle benefits.
SKT also plans to provide instalment discount benefits for secondary devices such as watches and tablets to customers on plans of "Best 109" or above.
Yoon Jae-woong (윤재웅), head of the Product & Brand Division at SKT, said, "We hope this pricing system revamp will help customers use telecom services more easily and comfortably," adding, "SKT will continue improving its service system to enhance customer convenience."
