Film \'Project Hail Mary\' raises question of whether humans can communicate with aliens
The film \'Project Hail Mary\' has opened in South Korea, reviving debate over whether communication with extraterrestrial life is possible. Ars Technica said on March 20 that the film’s rapid language learning would be far more complex in reality. Linguist Betty Berner said communication requires understanding cognitive and cultural context, and even shared concepts such as “up is good” may not translate. She said true communication is sharing thought systems, not swapping words.
