MNO subsidiaries take nearly half of budget carrier users; experts say fair competition rules must be redrawn

They cited data showing five MNO subsidiaries account for 47.5 percent of subscribers among 59 MVNO operators. Speakers called for legal and institutional measures, greater transparency and wholesale reforms, and urged a policy shift toward sustainable competition and qualitative growth.

AIDC special act clears science and ICT panel; power exemption debate looms in judiciary review

The bill must still be reviewed by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and approved at a plenary session. ‘Data peace-of-mind option’ reshapes 5G plans, but market remains sceptical
South Korea is moving to overhaul mobile plans by adding a “data peace-of-mind option” that guarantees unlimited data at 400 Kbps after allowances are used up and by introducing 5G plans in the 20,000-won range. The Ministry of Science and ICT expects 7.17 million users to benefit and estimates annual savings of 322.1 billion won. Users and civic groups question the effectiveness, citing slow speeds and limited data on the new low-cost plans.
