Ethereum 2025 year-end: DeFi TVL $99 billion, 9 times No.2 layer-1
Ethereum delivered structural growth in 2025 across DeFi, scalability, institutional adoption and links to real-world assets, according to its official team’s year-end ecosystem report. DeFi total value locked reached $99 billion, more than nine times that of the second-ranked layer-1 blockchain. Annual stablecoin settlement hit $18.8 trillion. Rollup-based throughput reached 5,600 transactions per second and Layer 2 fees fell below $0.01. Institutional ETH holdings exceeded $35 billion and RWA issuance topped $12 billion.

Ethereum layer 1 transactions top 2.2 million a day, average fee 17 cents
Ethereum\'s layer 1 blockchain recorded a daily 2.2 million transactions, reaching an all-time traffic high, Cointelegraph reported on Wednesday. Average transaction fees, which exceeded $200 in May 2022, have plunged to about 17 cents. The network has rolled out upgrades to improve scalability and lower costs. Token Terminal data showed 8.7 million new smart contracts were deployed in the fourth quarter of last year.
