Market design, policy seen as main drivers of power price rises, not AI data centres
A debate is intensifying over data-centre power costs as electricity prices surge alongside expanding AI infrastructure. Semiconductor research firm SemiAnalysis said in a report that market design and policy decisions, rather than data centres, are the main causes of rising power prices, CNBC reported. The report cited PJM Interconnection’s Base Residual Auction as driving sharp increases, while power costs have remained stable in the ERCOT region despite data-centre growth.
