Dormant bitcoin whale moves 26.96 BTC after 12 years, unrealised gain 7,975 percent

A long-dormant holding of 26.96 bitcoin moved to a new personal wallet after more than 12 years, attracting attention amid growing security concerns. The transfer, worth about $1.76 million, was moved from a legacy address to a nested SegWit address, with no further transactions recorded. The coins are estimated to have been bought in January 2014 near $803 each, implying an unrealised gain of about $1.73 million, or about 7,975 percent.

Bhutan transfers another 90 bitcoin, raising questions over sovereign bitcoin unwinding

Bhutan transferred 90 bitcoin to a new SegWit address, taking the value of bitcoin moved externally this year to more than $237 million. On-chain data showed the transfer went to a different address than the main wallets used for sovereign holdings, prompting market speculation about a sale or third-party transfer. Arkham data showed holdings at Druk Holdings have declined by about 10,000 bitcoin from an October 2024 peak.
