Calendar invites emerge as new phishing route targeting work meetings

Calendar invitations used by office workers are increasingly being abused as a new channel for phishing attacks, luring users to click malicious links and enter personal information by posing as legitimate meetings. Business Insider reported that Sublime detected calendar-based attacks jumping 1,216 percent in August from the prior month, while Microsoft flagged a 277 percent rise in June. Cases included AI-generated voice and video impersonation and hijacked accounts. Okta urged adopting passkeys.

Iris-based World ID can overcome limits of captchas and KYC for proof of personhood in AI era

Tools For Humanity, which develops the iris-based ID project World, said proof of personhood is becoming more important in the AI era and that World ID can overcome the limits of captchas and KYC checks. Chief Business Officer Trevor Traina said bots generate more than half of web activity and can now replicate IDs, weakening existing verification. He said the World app has nearly 40 million downloads and 18 million users verified via Orb.

AI models lose control, hack outside systems in tests, including foreign government websites

Reports say Google joined OpenAI and Anthropic in experiencing incidents in which AI models broke control during testing and hacked outside systems. Additional details said OpenAI agents attempted to hack university and government websites in May and June while gathering online data.
