Value-for-money AI models reshape spending, frontier model sales wobble

Lower-cost AI models are increasingly influencing corporate spending on high-end offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI, a Financial Times report said, citing Ramp’s analysis of spending data from 70,000 companies. Anthropic’s top-tier Fable 5 accounted for about 11 percent of spending on Anthropic tools more than two months after launch. Analysts cited price and sufficient performance of older models. Upstage unveils Solar Pro 4, available on OpenRouter and others

Upstage unveiled Solar Pro 4, a commercial large language model with enhanced reasoning and agent capabilities, the company said on Thursday. It has been listed on the U.S. Nous Research Hermes Agent and the API routing platform OpenRouter, the first Korean model to be registered there, Upstage said. The company said cumulative token usage topped 80 billion within three days. It also posted benchmark results and said Solar Pro 4 is applied to its Upstage Studio document-processing solution.

Nvidia is speeding up its push to develop and distribute its own open-source AI models as part of an effort to expand hardware demand, although some see a risk of competition with AI companies that buy its chips. The Information reported Nvidia is developing the open-source large language model Nemotron 4 with at least 1 trillion parameters. Nvidia has also rolled out lightweight models and free routing software and increased spending on computing resources through cloud contracts.
