President Lee says future response fund to be backed by semiconductor tax windfall; 2027 spending to top 800 trillion won
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) said a future response fund will be created using excess tax revenue from semiconductors. He said large additional revenue from an AI semiconductor boom will be invested in future, youth, regional and education areas. The government will also support three mega projects including semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centres. Next year’s total spending will be set at 800 trillion won plus alpha, more than 10 percent above this year’s main budget.
